Welcome to Cornwall Surf Academy. We offer a wide range of surf lessons, courses, and equipment hire to suit everyone from total beginners to intermediate surfers. Ages 8 and up. We can also help with organising your accommodation.
Our fully qualified British Surfing Association (BSA) instructors are also trained beach lifeguards for your added safety in the water. To be approved by the BSA we have passed stringent safety and quality controls ensuring all risks are managed. This includes having £5 million public liability cover, having all instructors vetted by the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and ensuring the maximum pupil to instructor ratio is 10:1.
LEARN TO SURF - What happens on the day? We will kit you out with a wet-suit to keep you warm and a specially designed surfboard for beginners. These are softer and more stable than a typical short-board and therefore safer and make it easier to learn. The aim is to get you up and riding the white peaks as safely and quickly as possible, learning at your own pace, in an exciting yet relaxed environment.
The first session consists of a compulsory safety brief. After this we get stuck into the techniques needed to catch a wave. We won't spend an excessive amount of time on the beach as we know you'll be itching to get in the water, however, learning the skills on a stable platform means you'll learn the right way before literally taking the plunge!
In the first few sessions you won't be any deeper than chest height in the water, until you have mastered the basics. There is plenty to learn. After consistently catching and riding the waves lying down, catching waves and riding them all the way in to the beach, you're ready to take the next step of standing; the reason you're here! All the techniques for this will be shown to you and positive feedback will be given throughout so that you can get the most out of the session.
Following sessions will look at gaining confidence in the water and catching small unbroken waves. Don't forget to smile throughout all this as you may well be being photographed so that you can impress yourself and your mates when you have evidence of standing up for the first time.
Kit/What you need to bring: We provide: surfboard and warm wetsuit. If you have your own please feel free to bring it along.
